Multiaqua is a heat pump designed to extract heat from a water (or brine/water) flow, typically the return from the heating distribution circuit, and provide it to the domestic water in an accumulator. Any accumulator with a flange of 180 mm diameter can be used. Multiaqua has an integrated electrical resistance for back up operation and for legionella prevention.
When heating is performed through a heat pump, traditionally the domestic hot water is produced by an electrical resistance or by the heat pump itself. None of these cases is optimal. In the first case the electricity consumption is high, while in the second the heat pump is operated with a low efficiency. In fact, the domestic hot water must often be produced with a higher temperature than the one required by the space heating, although heating requires the major part of the total energy. Since the heat pump performance decreases with the increasing heated water temperature, when it has to satisfy the space heating and the hot water demands, it works with a lower efficiency for all the produced energy, while it could produce the major part with a higher efficiency.
Instead, with Multiaqua®, the heat pump can function at a lower temperature of the heated water and therefore with a high efficiency, while the hot domestic water is produced at a higher temperature with a dedicated heat pump. Multiaqua®, although it produces water at a higher temperature, works with a high efficiency, too, because it uses a very warm heat source: the return of the heating distribution circuit.
Since Multiaqua® cools down the water returning to the space heating heat pump, this unit works with an even better efficency!
Another strength of Multiaqua®: the electricity supply is at 230V-1 phase. To put it into function one has just to plug it to the electricity grid. This means that no three-phase supply is needed, as for a trditional electrical resistance.
Multiaqua® can also be connected to a heating circuit heated by a normal gas or oil heater. In the case this is a condensation heater, the decreased temperature of the returning water is also beneficial to the heater efficiency!
* The limit of 18°C has been set to avoid air vapour condensation. It is possible to extract heat from colder circuits, by modifying the 18°C limit, if required.
Multiaqua has to be connected to one of the ACS or ACS-SOL serie accumulator or to any accumulator with a 180 mm diameter flange. On the heat extraction side, Multiaqua has to be connected via flexible tubes.
It is possible to extract heat from the return of the heating distribution circuit, no matter if a heat pump or a heater is used to heat the building. it is also possible to extract heat from a specific room, e.g. a wine cellar, from waste water, etc.
When turned on, Multiaqua heats up the domestic water in the accumulator, extracting heat from the circuit.
When one of the following is true, the integrated management module stops the heat pumps and puts it into a stand-by state.
1. The water temperature has reached the desired value
2. The heat extraction circuit has been cooled to a minimal temperature (factory set: 18°C)
If the heat pump can't operate, the management module stops it until the working conditions return. Meanwhile, if the water needs to be heated, it turns the integrated resistance on. This never works together with the heat pumps, acting thus as a back up.
A legionella prevention program can be selected, where the water temperature is raised to 60°C once each 24 h during the night.
